- 28/08/2024: Luis attended the IASS Annual Symposium 2024 (IASS 2024), held in Zurich. His presentation was about the “Characterisation and Modelling of ETFE Membranes for Tensile Structures.
- 27/08/2024: Dr. Federico Bosi attended the 26th International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM 2024) in Daegu, Korea. He had the opportunity to give two talks on “Multi-Objective Shape Optimization Of Architected Lattices” and “Connected Curriculum: Demos And Digital Tools For Research-Based Education”
- 03/05/2024: Our Project Coordinator Dr. Federico Bosi had the opportunity to visit University of Trento, one of LIGHTEN partners, and deliver a seminar on “The strength of ultralightweight solids: from membranes to architected materials”.
- 03/05/2024: Luis and Alessandro started their 2 months secondment at sbp. Their goal is to apply the ETFE material models developed to real design scenarios and typical load cases, such as wind and snow.
- 26/10/2023: Hari attended the 2023 Chalmers AI Research Center Workshop for Structured Learning, held in Gothenburg. The workshop explored how to encode domain knowledge into learning systems, improve uncertainty quantification, and tackle complex scientific problems efficiently.
- 24/10/2023: LIGHTEN’s second workshop “Advanced modelling of membrane structures, with a view to technological applications” was held remotely yesterday, on the 23rd of October. Eight international industrial and academic speakers presented their latest research findings. Additionally, 4 Lighten ESRs showcased their most recent results during the workshop.
- 04/10/2023: Alessandro attended the XI International Conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures, held in Valencia, giving a presentation about the “Thermomechanical characterisation and linear viscoelastic modelling of ETFE foils”.
- 01/10/2023: Third, and final, Training School included a visit to Architen Landrell facilities, where ESRs could see in person the manufacturing processes of different types of membranes. The detailed program of the Third Training School can be found at the bottom of this page.
- 07/08/2023: Luis attended the XVII International Conference on Computational Plasticity (COMPLAS2023), held in Barcelona. His presentation was about the “Viscoplastic Modelling and Yield Criterion for ETFE Membranes”.
- 26/07/2023: Hari attended the 17th U. S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USNCCM17), held at Albuquerque, U.S.A. and presented his work on “Hybrid Machine Learning for Constitutive Modeling of Multiphase Hyperelastic Materials”.
- 13/06/2023: Our ESR Hosein attended and presented at the Tensinantes 2023 symposium at Nantes Université in France, which brought experts from around the world to discuss and demonstrate the multitude of possibilities offered by lightweight structures, particularly structural and tensioned membrane structures. It was a positive experience for him and below are some images from the event.
- 21/12/2022: Hari participated in a virtual outreach event with the high school students of Beethoven Gymnasium, Berlin and delivered a talk on ‘Ultralightweight Membranes towards Sustainable Environment‘. This interactive discussion and Q&A was organized in the context of Science is Wonderful! initiative by EU MSCA.
- 11/07/2022: Congratulations to Hari for successfully completing the PhD Go/No-go assessment held by the Graduate School and the Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering, Delft University of Technology.
- 12/05/2022: LIGHTEN first workshop ‘ State of the art and challenges in the modelling and design of ultralightweight structures‘ will be held remotely on the 12th of May, starting at 8.45 am BST. Twelve international academic and industrial speakers will share their research experience in the characterisation, modelling and design of ultralightweight materials and structures.

- 11/04/2022: Alessandro presented a poster titled ‘Thermomechanical characterisation of viscoelastic ETFE membranes’ (A. Comitti, L. Seixas, M. Penasa, F. Bosi) at the 18th International Conference on Deformation, Yield and Fracture of Polymers (DYFP2022) held in Kerkrade, NL

- 24/09/2021: Hosein, Luis, Diego and Francesco attended the European Researchers’ night in Trento. They had a lot of fun explaining to the public the novel vision of the LIGHTEN project, engaging adults and young people!
